New Update: Sum Function in Formulas, Alt Name for Items, Manual Takeoff Updates, Okta Enterprise SSO, etc.

Sum Function

You can now use the "sum" function to total any property from child items. Just use sum('Some Property')

Alt Name

Sometimes when building assemblies, you may have an item that has a formula in the name. This can make it difficult to reference that item because you're trying to hit a moving target. Setting an "Alt Name" allows you to more easily reference an item by a name that will stay fixed, regardless of what the formula in the actual name returns.

Manual Takeoffs / Formula Mode

You now have the ability to switch your manual takeoff values into formula mode.

Misc Updates

  • Presets now store whether the takeoff is an assembly or item
  • Okta Enterprise SSO is now available. If you need it for your organization, just email us and we'll help you get set up.
  • Errors in formulas more consistently show "Formula Error" visibly in reports, etc.
  • Improved Expand All / Collapse All behavior.
  • Misc. bug fixes.

Thanks for all your input. We'll keep pushing to make zzTakeoff better 😊🚀

Alt Name is brilliant. Well done.

Would the new Sum work for totaling the rounded linear lengths?

Hey Camille, the new sum function sums properties/total measurements of the direct children in the takeoff tree/sidebar. We don't have any calculations at the section level (yet), so you could sum the total linear rounded from each of the child takeoffs, but not each section of the child linear rounded.

@Camille

To add to what Lorin mentioned... here's an example of using the Sum function to total up rounded linear lengths.

(probably not the best use case example - but it shows the concept)

Note: each of the 9'6" joists I drew are separate takeoffs. Not just additional sections within one takeoff.

For anyone using the Sum function, just make sure you're not double counting the linear footage when you export your takeoff numbers (using the sum total plus the individual qtys)

Ok, thank you for that. I was hoping it would work for our beam takeoffs.
