Using Formulas to add Variables for Names

Is there another way to add variables? I like to use variables in formulas, without really needing the formula, but only to tag in the name. This example is still applying this as a formula?

The other option that I use when I want a variable on one thing only is put in my qty formula and add those variables times zero. A*B+C + (V*0)

I agree with Perry, use custom properties and make sure to hide them so you only see them when you need them. Adding quick variables is awesome, but they are tied to the formula.
