What is the timeline to add a joist/rafter tool and a beam tool?

Todd Kaberline zzTakeoff113d 0h

Hey Dan, Can you email me at todd@zztakeoff.com

I want to run something by you in a zoom mtg on the tools

Heber Allred zzTakeoff112d 22h

Hi Dan. We don't have an exact ETA, but we are pushing hard to get these in the software. We realize a lot of users want it.

Joe Badger 92d 2h

Are we getting any closer to this?

Heber Allred zzTakeoff92d 2h

We are getting close. We still have some things to button up and test for our upcoming release, but after that, these tools are top priority.

Cedric J 52d 1h

Do you have any updates on this?

Dan Kukol 51d 5h

What's the ETA on the beam tool, floor joist and roof rafter tool? Going back to Planswift until these tools are added. Current work arounds in ZZ slow us down.

Heber Allred zzTakeoff51d 4h

Hi Dan. These are our top priority now that the new release is out. Development schedules are hard to predict, but I'm expecting a few weeks to maybe a month. We've had lots of discussions about beam, joists, and grid tools the last few days with the dev team.

Dan Kukol 28d 2h

Any timeline updates?

Heber Allred zzTakeoff28d 2h

We're getting very close. This is an example generated today using our script tools. We'll put out a basic version first, and then more advanced with time. The cool thing is that users can customize the script using AI if you want it to work differently. AI will be very good at helping create code for scripts in our app.

I appreciate the update. Keep in mind our users will be coming off of PS. We want to keep the functionality similar to PS. Not sure how scripting works and how complicated is to use. Needs to be simple and fast! We work on very large and complex projects.

Stephen Daves zzTakeoff28d 1h

It will be simple and fast for sure!

I think Heber wrote the joist tool in PS almost 20 years ago. I'm curious what two or three features would you add to improve the joist tool from you're use to?

What are a couple things you liked most about it?

Camille Smith 24d 4h

It would be great if you could click on the area and see what spacing was used for that section. It would also be great if you could modify a copied section without the lines resetting in the original box. Sometimes it creates a new joist line when we didn't want it to and we aren't able to combine those when that happens.

Will the joist and beam tools be released at the same time? What is the anticipated release date?

Stephen Daves zzTakeoff17d 6h

Sorry, we don't publish promise dates for features. However, you can follow our product updates to be notified.

David Hooper 14d 5h

I'm definitely ready to see this. Right now I'm running ZZ and using my truss design program to layout rafters and joists.

Dan Kukol 2d 23h

Any new progress on these tools?

Stephen Daves zzTakeoff2d 6h

Joe Badger 2d 5h

Promise dates aren't need but it would be nice to know if these are a few weeks to a few months out, this is a huge part of framing estimation and having to do it manually or via a third party tool is getting to be increcibly tiresome. The last up date we got was that this was a few weeks to a month out which was 48 days ago. Knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel would be nice.
