Use PDF files instead of converting

Planned

Would it be possible to use the original PDF files instead of converting them to JPEG or TIFF images?

This could offer the following benefits:

1. Preserve vector data from the PDF for more accurate and efficient takeoffs.

2. Enable snapping to nodes on vector objects directly within the PDF, improving precision and workflow.

3. Facilitate smoother integration of hyperlinks to navigate between pages within the project.

Do you have the ability to use the original PDF files in the browser, instead of converting them to JPEG or TIFF files before use?

Hi there,

Thank you for your thoughtful suggestion about PDF handling. Let me explain our current approach and future plans:

Our system converts PDF files to optimize browser-based performance, allowing for quick viewing and responsive panning on individual pages. This approach ensures smooth operation within web browsers without compromising speed and responsiveness. We understand the value of vector data - which is why we're working on maintaining vector information in the background while still delivering this snappy browser-based experience.

For snapping functionality, we're developing a solution that will allow precise snapping to vector nodes within our optimized format. This will combine the benefits of vector precision with the performance advantages of our current system.

Regarding hyperlinks between pages - we agree this would be valuable for navigation, and it's currently on our development roadmap.

Our goal is to deliver the best of both worlds: the performance and reliability you need for daily work, while progressively adding advanced vector-based features to enhance precision and functionality.

Let me know if you have any other questions about our approach or planned features.
