Stay on templates tab after takeoff

Under Review

I have asked this before but could not find it.

Is there a plan to have a setting to be able to stay on the templates tab when doing a takeoff?

It drives me mad jumping back and to, I have accidently started extra takeoff on a few items today thinking I was in templates, this could seriously mess up my numbers if I dont spot it.

Thanks!

Hello KevOB,

You can undock the Takeoff/Template and move it over to the side. That may be a good option for you.

Thanks Shaun, I have tried that but it jumps from template to takeoff randomly

Shawn M 15d 10h

yeah, I was able to recreate that behaver.

we need a way to undock only the Template.

Thanks for the feature request! This could potentially be a setting we implement to disable jumping to the takeoffs tab when starting a takeoff.

Regarding the undocked templates, we'll take a look to see if we can replicate that issue and resolve it. Is there anything specific you were doing that caused the sidebar to switch to takeoff? Did you switch the main tab sidebar to lists or templates when you started a takeoff?

When I recreated it, I just clicked an item to record and after I clicked okay on the tool, the undocked template switched to Takeoff.

but now of course, I try to record it, and it makes a liar out of me. lol

@KevOB,

If you are looking to populate your Takeoff with items from your template, you could try it this way:

To get to the menu, you can click "/" and click on templates or press spacebar twice while in view mode and it will bring you to templates. Just a thought.

I can't recreate it now either,

Shawn M 15d 7h

maybe it fixed itself lol. IDK

Lol! I was able to replicate this by undocking the template tab, keeping the main browser on the template tab, and starting from the template in the undocked window. In that case, it switched the undocked tab to the takeoff tab. This issue doesn't happen if the main browser is on Takeoff.

That makes sense actually. One of them needs to be on takeoff so if it sees that the main page is not on takeoff, it switches.

Thats good to know Lorin but I would still like to be able to lock it as I often work from my laptop and screen area is important.

I have just recreated it a few times with the takeoff undocked and templates docked.

It seems if I am doing a few linears it is ok but then if I do a count it will sometimes swap and will keep swapping until I click on the window bar of the undocked window and then does not swap again

Thanks for the additional information! We'll dig further into this to solve both issues mentioned.
