I love being able to copy takeoff data to a new drawing revision and have the takeoff show me what has changed, rather than relying on overlays.
What is still missing is an easy way to view and compare report data from previous drawing versions without manually switching back to the old drawings.
I’m also curious how others are handling this in the meantime.
Hi Luke,
With the developer tools that are currently in the test server, and what will be release soon'ish', I built a version control component. Basically, you save the.json file internally for each version of the plans like: baseline plan, addendums, change orders and request for quotes. I can pick and choose the version I would like to compare with like awarded bid version vs Change order #1. and it will build the list of costs that are in your bid and versions. I have mine listing the takeoff assemblies with the parts and listing the adds and deducts, then exporting to an excel fof adjustment per the contract.
It does not save the plans... yet, but I am sure someone will figure that out. Might be able to save the sapa shows from the .json file in the ultimate package... Anyways, not sure if it will make the cut if the dev team decides to put it in the release for the ultimate package or not, but it works pretty slick.
Hope that helps.
I’m glad the developer tools offer a solution. They’re incredibly powerful and I'm very excited to tailor the program to our company’s specific needs. That said, I still think some features, like comparing revisions and reports from previous drawing versions, eventually belong in the main product.
