Feature RequestsAuto Name
Can the Auto Name function be applied to any property other than Name? When you have multiple material and labor items, the name gets too long. If it could be applied to Custom Properties it would be great. If it can't, could a System Property be setup to have that function as well? Like one of the properties under WBS?
Hey Ted, are you trying to basically 'sum' or aggregate the direct child values to the parent? For example, if you had 2 child items with a custom property "Division", if one was "01" and the other was "02", are you trying to make the parent show "01 | 02" for that custom property? Also, is this just for report purposes, or do you want to reference this aggregated value in a formula (like the name)?
With Auto Name, the name is very long but, it is inclusive, like a list of assembly items. If this could be captured in a different field, my Takeoff "Name" could use Text with Tags and represent the F-7 (3'-0" x 3'-0" x 18") spread footing that it really is. When reviewing the takeoff, I would include the field/property that has the Auto Name as a column.
i have found sometimes when using auto name i can easily hide parts i dont want in the name by making them child items of the main parts i want to be in the name.
another option is to utilize text with tags. and start with [sku] or [descrtiption] followed by a series of custom properties .
i do find myself wanting to do a bit of both of these things and sometimes. you can also convert main material item to an item and you can still have child parts.
i agree with teds comment. i know someone previously made a feature request to add a column of their choosing to the takeoff tab i think this is actually a great idea
