Good morning.
When importing a project, ZZTakeoff renames the sheet "Sheet 1". Then you can use the AI to attempt to rename the sheet based on the selected values.
Our workflow generally includes importing the documents into Procore for renaming and document management.
When files are imported into Procore, Procore renames the files and inserts them into folders based on the appropriate disciplines. It provides naming structure as follows:
A1.00 - Site Plan- Rev.0 (See screenshot below)
When we import a new version of that sheet. Procore renames the sheet:
A1.00 - Site Plan-Rev.1
A1.00 - Site Plan-Rev.2
Etc.
Feature Requests:
1. It would be helpful if when files were imported, they maintained the name of the file that was being imported instead of renaming them "Sheet 1" and relying on AI to rename.
2. When files are imported, if they have the same file number, they should sort appropriately so that Rev.2 is in front of Rev.1 and Rev 1 is in front of Rev 0.
3. When we export files from Procore to import files to our takeoff software, we are given a folder structure with relevant files as follows:
We really need to be able to import folders with files inside of those folders into zztakeoff. Maintaining the folder structure and file name is ideal. Can this be added? Right now we would have to load files to Planswift, export from Planswift and then import to zztakeoff so that it maintained the file structure.
Seems like if you can import folders and files from Planswift files you should be able to import folders with files at the start of the project.
Good input Ben! We're discussing with the developers now. Adding to our list.
Just to clarify...are all these PDFs 1 page each? Also, is this file naming scheme standard for Procore when you export? If this format is consistent, we could specifically focus on importing this format.
Yes. If a Project Planset is all wrapped up into one pdf, Procore splits out that PDF's into individual sheets. It then names it with some user feedback. Then when the files are exported, they are exported in the folder disciplines and within those folders individual files. The name of the file is whatever the name of the plan sheet is (A1.0 - Site plan), but the end of the file is where they manage the revision number. If there is a new sheet that supersedes the old sheet, Procore gives it a new revision number at the end of the file and the software makes sure that you are always working on the latest sheet revision. Rev.0, Rev.1, Rev.2, etc. The screen shot above shows the exported Planswift documents. The folder names are user defined on a company level I think, so I'm not so sure that the Folder names are important so much as being able to import the folder and their contents with the pre-established naming structure.
The Procore exported named documents like this are handy for when we need to send an individual sheet or group of sheets to a specialty subcontractor / vendor. It's easy to grab 1-5 sheets and send. That could be another feature worth adding to ZZtakeoff. The ability to grab multiple sheets and email the selected sheets as a pdf attachment or to make a group of sheets available in the cloud for a vendor to view and download for their own takeoff purposes.
Awesome. Thanks for the input. We're adding to our list the ability to better manage these imports. Hopefully you could drag & drop a whole folder and it keeps all folder structure and naming. We will have to enable some options because sometimes the PDF files have page names inside on each page, but in this case you want the file name to be used for the page name. As long as you can choose which you want when you import, I think that will solve it. We are also discussing internally ideas on revision management.
